Natural Treatments for the ScalpHow to Achieve Beautiful Hair by Fostering a Healthy Scalp
A healthy scalp is the key to strong and healthy hair. If the skin on the scalp is corroded with dead skin cells or excessive dryness, hair will grow thin or not at all.
Salon products and medical prescriptions can be full of harsh chemicals and irritating preservatives. Natural solutions for a healthy scalp are effective, inexpensive and environmentally friendly, and can be found right in the kitchen or as close as the local grocery store. Apple Cider VinegarApple cider vinegar is derived from fermented fruit and contains many nutrients as well as alpha hydroxy acids for clear smooth skin. Apple cider vinegar stands apart from others because it is the only vinegar that has not been distilled. Because of this, it still contains powerful scalp clearing ingredients that have otherwise been steamed out by the distillation process. Janice Cox, author of Natural Beauty at Home, suggests using apple cider vinegar as a hair rinse to maintain a healthy scalp. Apple cider vinegar will remove any dead skin cells and other impurities that are clogging hair follicles and preventing healthy growth. It will also balance the pH level of the scalp to ensure that it does not become too dry making it unable to sprout new hair. Technique Dilute 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of water. While in the shower, pour the rinse over the head, taking care to avoid contact with the eyes. Massage the mixture into the scalp with fingertips for a few minutes and wash hair as usual. Use this rinse weekly to maintain a healthy and clear scalp. Olive OilOlive oil was used by the Ancient Greeks to keep skin clean and hydrated. Olive oil contains oleic acid, which helps skin hold necessary moisture. Olive oil has been used for generations as a natural treatment for dandruff and dry scalp. It removes bacteria while keeping the skin hydrated to support healthy hair growth. Extra virgin olive oil is the best because it has been processed the least, and it is considered the most pure. It is the lightest in color and can be found at any grocery store. Olive oil can be used as a scalp treatment before bed to give the scalp all night to absorb the nutrients and repair itself. Technique Apply extra virgin olive oil to the scalp before bed. Cover the head with a shower cap, and wash hair as usual in the morning. The scalp will feel smooth and clear. Use nightly until skin appears clear and hair texture improves. After this, use this intensive therapy treatment every other week to maintain a smooth and healthy scalp.
