It is a fact that winter tends to damage the hair and make it very dry.

The cold is not the only reason for hair problems. The dry air inside the house is also bad for the hair follicles. Unfortunately there is noway around it, winter brings with it dry and damaged hair. This is why a proper hair treatment is needed in winter so that the hair remains healthy or at least restores its shine and beauty by the time spring is knocking at the door.

Tips to Maintain Healthy Hair in Winter

Here are a few tips that are useful to follow to keep the hair healthy at all times, without getting succumbed to the winter hardships.

  • Hair should be trimmed often as the hair dryness usually starts from the split ends. If the hair gets trimmed every two months most of the year, in the winter it should be trimmed once every six weeks.
  • If heated styling tools are used on the hair, a hair conditioner should be applied first to protect the hair. A leave-in conditioning or a hair repair cream is preferable in this case. These products should be used with care and sparingly, only enough to give the hair that extra protection when using a hair blow dryer.
  • Hair pampering is a must during the cold season. This means that a deep-therapy mask should be done every week, particularly if the hair is curly. Some masks have rice protein which help rebuild and strengthen the hair and corn protein for managing the hair body easier.
  • Following a balanced diet during the winter time will make sure that the hair remains balanced as well. Usually people who are on a low-carb diet tend to have dry hair. During the summer time this is not a problem in itself, but as winter dries the hair even more, the end result tends to be a mess. Important is also drinking of lots of water. Just because it is not hot outside doesn't mean that the body, skin and hair follicles don't need extra water for remaining hydrated and healthy.
  • The hair tends to get flat by using scarves or hats during winter. This is why using mousse will bring it back to its original volume. Simply adding some mousse to moist fingertips and gently massaging it into the scalp will do the trick any day.

Additional Tips for Winter Hair Treatment

Winter brings with it less sunshine which is not healthy for the hair. Particularly the dark hair tends to look much darker and duller. Rinsing the hair with chamomile tea will not only bring back the shine and color but will also help the hair follicles

Usually styling products contain alcohol which tends to dry the hair. This can be avoided by buying products that have no alcohol in them by carefully reading the label on the box.

When using hair dryers it is preferably to use professional blow dryers as they dry the hair much faster and much gentler than the regular kind. Also they tend to leave the hair smooth and shiny, which is so much needed during the winter time.
