Jill Nessel's BlogPosted by Jill Nessel I think I'm torn over Posh's new 'do. I think most women look better with short hair than long, since it shows off their face better, but this cut might be too short. Bravo, Vicky, for having the guts to not look like everyone else. If I see one more person with the same long, streaky, straight/wavy hairdo I will scream. I think as Victoria's cut grows it will look a little less stark. Posted by Jill Nessel I just wrote an article called Must Have Hair Care Products for the Beach about what types of products you should have on-hand--not necessarily the brand of product. There are hundreds of good brands out there, the message was to have a good comb, a good shampoo, and a good leave in treatment. I was originally going to discuss the sunscreens available in some hair care products but my research told me that there was debate as to whether there was actually any value to these products. I've learned in my work that these products are effective, but thought I'd ask some tough questions to my friends at Rusk, Paul Mitchell and ghd before I write about this. Stay tuned for an update and an article about this topic! Posted by Jill Nessel I will be purchasing about 32 litres of professional shampoo and conditioner litre duos next month. My favourites to stock up on are just about anything from Paul Mitchell, but I will be trying a few new products as well. I'm looking forward to trying Sebastian Laminates Sheer, that I've never used before. Also, just about everything from Graham Webb. Feel free to write me and let me know your fave shampoo and conditioner! Posted by Jill Nessel Ok, I admit it. I had no idea who Cory Kennedy was when I found out she would be representing one of the biggest brand re-launches in the hair industry. It might have to do with her being just 18 and a hit on the L.A. party circuit, while I am old enough to be her mother and live in fashion-starved Edmonton, Alberta. I am promised by those in-the-know at Sebastian that the re-launch has an advertising budget of over $20 million and is set to take the hair industry by storm I've always been a fan of Sebastian, even when I didn't work in the industry. Can't wait to see the new products, packaging and events that re-launch the brand. Posted by Jill Nessel I just found out today I am going to the Paul Mitchell Signature Gathering Party and Sales Camp August 2-4, 2008. For industry professionals there is an incredible business seminar to help build sales in all types of salons. I've seen the movies and pictures from previous years and can't wait to go. We get to play with products and colour, and see the experts work their magic; attend hair fashion shows and mingle with some of the best in the industry. It's being held at The Venetian in Las Vegas. Vegas in August will be brutal (especially when I already have dry hair), but when else would you expect one of the industry's hottest events to take place? The event is topped off with an 80s Party, so if you have any suggestions for a costume for me, drop me a line. Remember, hair should be the focus! I have a short, straight bob right now so maybe something like Molly Ringwald...? Posted by Jill Nessel What happened when Rihanna's flat iron broke today while on tour with Kanye West in Edmonton, Alberta? Well, her people called my people. I met with Rihanna's manager today, Beth Springer, when Rihanna's CHI broke. Rihanna thought this was a good time to try and find Paul Mitchell's new Express Ion Style 1.0 flat iron as she was dying to get one but has been so busy on tour. Like a good little fan, I packed up my own Express Ion Style 1.0 in the box (always keep the box!), put a gift bag together of Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner and Extra Body Firm Finishing Spray, and about 30 China Glaze nail lacquers for Rihanna to welcome her to Edmonton. Beth was thrilled and passed a "thank you" on to me from Rihanna for coming down to Rexall Place on such short notice. Beth said Rihanna would especially go ga-ga over the China Glaze as she "loves" nail polish. Much to my delightful surprise, Rihanna left 2 tickets to her concert for me at the box office! I went to the concert and of course, her hair looked fantastic. Just another day at work, folks. Posted by Jill Nessel As soon as I read Sarah's article today I could feel my mother yanking a comb through my thick, "rat's nest" hair all over again. She was not gentle, and actually seemed to think that the faster she ran that comb through my hair the better. My daughter has a graduated bob style, and even though it is not super long she still gets tangles here and there--especially when she gets out of the tub or goes swimming. Rubbing with a towel makes things worse. The products I find the most helpful for this are It's A 10 sprayed on before I even get a comb near her wet head, and Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi Moisture Mist for dry tangles. In the morning before school, I will spray the Awapuhi on those fuzzy nests that seem to multiply through the night and then comb through. Because it's moisturizing, it always leaves her hair soft as well. |
